Photographer Position (Contact Us)

Photographers may either use their own digital SLR camera (Canon or Nikon preferred) or use shop equipment.  Since owning your own equipment is not required, a working knowledge of digital SLR cameras, lenses, and camera accessories such as external flash, and a knowledge of both mac and pc computers is necessary.  Please keep in mind that we do not have the time to show you how a camera works.  Photographers must have at least intermediate ski or snowboard ability and equipment.  Position is seasonal and photographers are expected to be able to work until mid to late April.  Important note:  this job requires working on holidays and/or weekends as needed.

On hill responsibilities include setting up action and/or portrait shooting locations on-mountain at Snowbird for 3-4 hours each morning and 1 hour in the afternoon.  Photographers will be responsible for shooting “powder shots” in fresh snow, action shots on groomed runs, family portraits at the top of the Tram or Baldy Express, and kids shots on Chickadee, the beginner hill.  Shooting locations change daily due to weather, ski/snowboard conditions and regular schedule rotations.  In addition, photographers will be eligible to shoot “private sessions” in which clients book photographers by the hour.

While shooting on the hill, photographers are responsible for selling our services and outwardly engaging clients in order to have their portraits and action photos taken.  Since Powdershots concentrates enhancing our clients skiing/boarding experience, this position requires professionalism and enthusiasm when dealing with families and vacationers and snowbird clients in general.

In shop responsibilities include downloading, editing and renaming images taken each day, using Adobe Photoshop,  selling photos to our clients, selling and promoting private photo sessions, and general customer service in our shop.  Hours selling in the shop vary between 1 – 2 hours per day.

Photographers will receive the following compensation:

  • Base Salary for shooting shift (3 hours of shooting per day minimum),
  • Commission on sales (10%),
  • Private Session shoot salaries ($40.00/hour and $20.00 per ½ hour)
  • Daily sales bonuses when applicable.

If you are enthusiastic, friendly, enjoy digital photography, working in the mountains, and snow, then this is a great opportunity to make good $ in a great environment!
